Fellow Miconians and Friends of Mico:
Dr. Devon Duhaney, a Professor at the State University New York, New Paltz Center, and a Miconian, in addressing a recent Mico Alumni Luncheon challenged us to renew our commitment to Mico. To quote Dr. Duhaney “The Mico University College recently saw some changes which were long overdue. The institution has, over the years, nurtured many of us to become not just classroom teachers but has provided us the KASH - Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits to perform in any and all sectors of life”. As graduates of that noble institution, we must now return CASH for KASH.
Mico College has now received University status. This new status brings visibility, growth as well as challenges. This letter addresses a small but immediate concern. The Mico University needs to own a mode of transportation for student activities - a bus. This vehicle, with an estimated purchase price of US $35,000, is needed to: transport the college’s different sports teams to competitions across Jamaica, transport students and faculties to community events, transport staff to the Mico Satellite Campuses now being established across Jamaica and assist with Teaching Practicum across rural Jamaica, etc.
We are asking each Miconian, and of course friends of Mico to donate US$50.00 (or more) towards the purchase of this vehicle. Let us begin our CASH for KASH exchange today. Please make a commitment and send a check or money order payable to: Mico Alumni Association of South Florida by September 7, 2009. Please mail to the address above.
Collectively as one unit, let us do it with our might and make this a reality for our alma mater. Please share this appeal letter with every Miconian you might be in touch with and ask him/her to share it with others. Let us do it now. The entire list of contributors will be sent to the Mico. The college will also acknowledge the Chapters by having the Chapters’ names written on the side of the bus.
